Immigration to Canada can be achieved in part by obtaining a Permanent Resident (PR) visa. Once you receive a PR visa, you will become a permanent resident. PR visas are valid for five years and can be renewed.

Citizenship of your native country will remain unchanged even if you obtain a PR visa. As a PR visa holder, you can take advantage of the following advantages:

• Can seek for Canadian citizenship in the future

• You have the freedom to live, work, and study anywhere in Canada.

• Eligible for Canadian citizens' healthcare and other social benefits

 • Protection under Canadian law

If you are a student or a worker from another nation, you must apply for a PR visa separately; it does not immediately make you a permanent resident of the country.

Refugees from another nation are not automatically accepted as permanent residents of the United States. The Immigration and Refugee Board must approve their status as refugees. Following that, they can apply for and receive PR status.
