All About Latest Australia Immigration Updates W.E.F 1st July 2018

Australia Immigration process is almost on a verge of complete makeover that will deeply impact Australia’s migrant community that includes business sponsoring skilled migrants and point-test based visa applications.
July is the month of Australia revamping, from 1 July 2018 onwards, there will be a series of reforms on various skilled visa categories in Australia’s migration program.
The department is changing the immigration norms to sharpen the focus of Australia’s skilled migration programs, to ensure they better meet Australia’s skills needs.

What are the immigration changes planned by the Australian government?
Below mentioned are some of the key changes that are recently announced by the Federal Government for the skilled migration visa applications:
  • Changes to Australia pass point score for skilled migration
A point based immigration system is followed by the immigration department to migrate the potential applicants under Subclass 189, subclass 190 and subclass 489 visas.
Australia is in highly needs of skilled workers and thus invites applicants to apply for Australia PR under skilled migration programs to best meet the labour requirement needs.
To be able to apply for Australia PR, the minimum score has been increased from 60 to 65 points. The points are calculated for age, educational qualification, work experience, relevant skills, language proficiency and other factors.

  • Global Talent Visa Scheme
The Global trial visa scheme will run on a trial basis for 12 months in July, 2018. This stream is purposely come into force to attract highly skilled workers to deliver innovation to Australia’s tech industry. There are two streams- start-up stream and established business stream
The employers who want to sponsor foreign workers will need to first provide their track record of hiring and training Australian workers.
This stream is more or less same to existing entrepreneur visa and it may have been introduced to complement the skill shortage generated after the closure of controversial 457 visa scheme.
  • Rise in Visa application fees
The visa application fees have been increased from 1 July 2018. Also, the government is hoping to generate $410 million dollars over a four-year period from 2017 to 2021.
The partner visa application has been hike from $7000 to $7160
The business innovation and investment visa premium investor stream will record the highest hike of $190. The new visa fee is $8,770, instead of $8,580.
Further, the skilled migration fees increased from existing $3670 to $37552 for primary applicant. Adult dependent and child dependent visa too has gone up from $1835 and $925 respectively to $1875 to $940. Read more here
  • Skilled Migration partner age limit lowered for Australia PR visa
The skilled migration visa program age limit has been lowered, now an applicant with a maximum age of 45 years can claim additional points in the Australia immigration point test.
