South Australia Skilled Occupation List Updated 2019

In the recent update, South Australia has reviewed and updated its Skilled Occupation List following the changes to the federal SOL. The changes in the occupation list have been made to the SNOL (State Nominated Occupation List) as well as to the SSL (Supplementary Skilled List).
There are three occupations that newly added to the SNOL namely:
  • Software and Application Programmer
  • Multimedia Specialist
  • Statistician
Meanwhile, South Australia has also removed 5 occupations from the SNOL as these occupations were removed from the Combined Skilled Occupation List. Additionally, no changes have been made to the occupations on the RSMS (Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme), as quoted by SBS News.
The below mentioned occupations are no longer available to the applicants for state nomination:
  • Texting, clothing and Footwear Mechanic
  • Watch and Clock Maker
  • Library Technician
  • Visual Arts and crafts Professionals
  • Chemical Plant Operator

  2. Pressure Welder

South Australia Introduces New Business Visa For Permanent Residency

The new special visa is aimed to improve the economy of South Australia. This visa was launched on November 21. This pilot scheme is planned for three years till the end of November 2021. The visa will have no cap for the next three years, as confirmed by the Department of Home Affairs.
What is special about this visa? How is it different from other visas?
The Business Visa does not require any investment unlike other business and investment visas that has mandatory minimum investment requirement. The other Business Visas available in Australia require a minimum investment of at least $200,000.
The Visa Subclass 408 is a temporary visa that is approved by Federal Government and will allow the visa holders to stay in Australia for 3 years. Also, the visa holders will also be able to include their family members in their visa applications.
To apply for New Australia Business Visa, the applicants must be less than 45 years of age, and an endorsement from the South Australian State Government that allows you to establish a business in the state. The applicants are also required to submit a strong business plan to the state government.

The endorsement by the State Government gives the assurance that only genuine entrepreneurs have access to apply for subclass 408 Visa.

Steven Marshall, Premier of SA says that this new visa will help create jobs in the state. Also, new investments will be targeted, as per SBS. This visa is also one of the routes for Permanent Residence in Australia.
There is also positive light is seen as this visa category will encourage more investment in sectors that has the maximum growth potential. The sectors include defense technology and advances manufacturing. The Federal Government is also planning to enter the naval shipbuilding program in SA.
A total of $400,000 budget has been allocated to these programs by the South Australian Government.
The English requirement for this visa has also been kept very low that is IELTS 5 bands in each module of reading, writing, listening and speaking as compared to other visa categories.

The applicants who are an entrepreneurs having strong business plans may apply for Subclass 408 to set up their business in South Australia. The business proposal will be evaluated by either The State or The Federal Government. The applicants who are able to sustain their business venture in Australia will be able to apply for Australian Permanent Residency.

South Australia Occupation list latest updates 30th October, 2018

Immigration South Australia has updated its state nomination list on 30th October, 2018. This list is applicable to all the applicants applying for South Australia State Nomination Program including International Graduates of South Australia.
You must know that South Australia Occupational lists are divided into two separate lists, one is State Nominated Occupation List and the other is Supplementary Skilled List.
State Nominated Occupation List is derived from the Short Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) that mentions the occupations that are in demand in the state of South Australia. So, if you are seeking to apply for permanent residency in South Australia under the General Skilled Migration Program, you must have an occupation that is mentioned on the list. This list is updated annually.
The Supplementary Skilled List reflects all occupations that are available on the STSOL that are not available on South Australia State Occupation List. Though, these occupations are only available if you meet the additional requirements such as:
  1. You are an international graduate of South Australia
  2. You have worked in a skilled occupation in South Australia for the last 12 months
  3. You have an immediate family member permanently residing in South Australia for 24 months or more
This list is available to limited applicants who can demonstrate links with South Australia. This list is available to international graduates of South Australia, skilled migrants who have worked in a skilled occupation in South Australia or the person having high employment qualities.
It is important to note that some occupations in this list may have certain barriers to being immediately eligible for employment. You are advised to thoroughly research for employment opportunities in South Australia before applying for permanent residency.
