Canada proposes new immigration advantages for foreign scholars and job

As well as resuming its Express Entry lotteries for applicants to the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), and Federal Skilled Trades (FST) in early July, Canada has announced extra perks for foreign students studying there.

Sean Fraser, the minister of immigration, recently unveiled a new temporary policy that will allow recent international graduates in Canada with expiring temporary status the chance to stay longer so they can continue to gain work experience and improve their chances of being accepted for Canada permanent residency.

International students studying in Canada who hold a post-graduation work permit that expires between January and December 2022 will be eligible for an additional open work permit with a maximum validity of 18 months beginning in the summer of 2022. As per the IRCC, "We are investigating a smoothed out, facilitated process for this, and particulars will be made accessible in the weeks to come."

Up to 50,000 PGWP holders could take advantage of this new open work permit since approximately 95,000 PGWPs will expire in 2022.

Express Entry

To help fill more than a million job openings across the nation, Express Entry Canada recently announced the restart of its Express Entry draws for Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), and Federal Skilled Trades (FST) candidates in early July.

Most new Express Entry applications will be processed within the allotted six months of service. The IRCC estimates that the processing times for Express Entry currently range from seven months to more than 20 months.

Canada's premier point-based immigration system is called Express Entry.

The applications that applicants submit are ranked in a pool, draws are made, and the applicants with the highest points are asked to submit applications for Canadian permanent residency

Applicants for PR

Permits with a validity date of 2024 will be provided to people who apply for an open work permit while waiting for their PR application to be processed. This will guarantee that all applications for Canada permanent residence are completed before applicants must submit another application to extend their temporary status.

The requirement that applicants stay in Canada while their application is being processed has been removed.

The immediate family members listed in a principal applicant's permanent residence application who are outside of Canada will be qualified for their own open work visa in order to support family reunification.

Indians continue to benefit most from both student visas and permanent residency permits. Indian nationals received 50,841 invitations to use the "Express Entry" process to apply for permanent residence in Canada in 2020. Nearly 100,000 Indians obtained permanent residency in Canada in 2021, the year that saw the nation admit a record-breaking 405,000 new immigrants.

As of December 31, 2021, there were over 622,000 international students studying in Canada, including 217,410 Indians.
