The Canadian government will be able to welcome applicants who meet current labour standards thanks to a significant revamp being planned for the country's points-based Express Entry system.
The new Express Entry
system will, according to the proposed legislation, let invitations be based
on standards such as certain academic credentials and industry-related jobs.
Sean Fraser, the minister of immigration, said that in
various conversations with stakeholders or in open forums, the Express Entry program
as it currently exists is being examined along these lines.

Currently, the Express Entry system uses characteristics including age,
education, work experience, job offer, and language proficiency to rank
individuals from a generic pool (including in French). Those who achieve the
required Comprehensive Ranking
Score (CRS) cutoff are invited to apply for Canadian permanent
residency.
Express Entry categorizes immigration to Canada into three classifications.
- Canadian Experience Class (those who have lived in Canada for at least a year)
- Federal Skilled Workers (work experience and qualification are a must)
- Federal Skilled Traders (those having work experience)
Canada estimates the waiting period for new applications to be 6 months, as
it was before the pandemic when it resumes its Express
Entry draws for all three classes in early July.
In the second half of 2021, Canada stopped doing
Express Entry draws for the CEC category, and starting December 2022, it has
stopped holding draws for FSWP candidates as well.
Additionally, the nation has announced new advantages
for international students.
International students studying in
Canada who hold a post-graduation work permit that expires between January
and December 2022 will be eligible for an additional open work permit with a
maximum validity of 18 months beginning in the summer of 2022. As per the IRCC,
"We are investigating a smoothed out, facilitated process for this, and
particulars will be made accessible in the weeks to come."
Up to 50,000 PGWP holders could take advantage of this
new open work permit since approximately 95,000 PGWPs will expire in 2022.
Indians continue to benefit most from both student visas and
permanent residency permits. Indian nationals received 50,841 invitations to
use the "Express Entry" process to apply for permanent residence in
Canada in 2020. Nearly 100,000 Indians obtained permanent residency in
Canada in 2021, the year that saw the nation admit a record-breaking 405,000
new immigrants.
As of December 31, 2021, there were over 622,000
international students studying in Canada, including 217,410 Indians.
