Multinational giant ‘Google’ has strongly criticized the changes
made by the Australian government to skilled migrant visas resulting in
revising their Australian recruitment plans.
Google states that Australia’s skilled visa system doesn’t
provide the long term certainty needed to attract workers from overseas to
train globally competitive Australian labor market.
Google submitted its view on ‘Digital Economic Strategy’
regarding skilled migration ties on how will it be possible to recruit talented
workers with the business critical skills without the 457 visa, replacing it
with new TSS Visa, with fewer eligible occupations and no pathway to permanent
residency?
Google’s submission urges the government to ‘fix’ its skilled
migration policy and ensure Australians have access to skills they will need
for the jobs of the future.
Google’s workforce in Australia majorly consists of Australians,
however, the skills they require often come from overseas.
Due to the government changes made to Australia’s skilled
migration visa system in 2017, Google Australia has had to revise its
Australian recruitment plans. Their some designations have been affected
because of Business-critical skills have been excluded from the longer term
visa categories which were necessary to train the younger Australian employees.

Google also feels that Australia’s current skilled visa system
is full of loopholes as the system is unable to fully recognize the value of
propriety knowledge and dodges in rapidly changing businesses into existing
ANZSCO skill categories.
