Further statements have been made by the New Zealand Government and Immigration New Zealand in respect to New Zealand's current border setting and immigration policy. We've compiled these announcements and updated our infographic to reflect the most important changes.
Travelers who
are eligible have been identified.
Immigration New
Zealand has defined the types of people who are
eligible to come to New Zealand, which includes:
• New Zealand citizens
• Permanent
residents of New Zealand or holders of a residence visa
• Australian
nationals or permanent residency visa holders whose principal place of
residence is in New Zealand
• Those holding
a critical purpose visa (with a border exemption), or those with a valid
passport.
• Partners,
children who are dependent, or parents of a dependent kid who are:
- I am a New Zealander.
- You must be a New Zealand resident, or
- One of the individuals specified in the preceding bullet points
MIQ
qualifications and entrance dates have changed.
• The previously
scheduled deadline for qualified passengers departing from Australia to employ
self-isolation has been pushed back to the end of February 2022. (Prior to this
announcement, the date was 17 January 2022).
• Eligible
visitors to New Zealand must present a negative Covid-19 test obtained from the
local health authority 48 hours before to their first overseas flight (the
previous requirement was 72 hours).
• Upon arrival
in New Zealand, eligible travelers must MIQ for 10 days.
Given that the
date for eligible travelers travelling from Australia to use self-isolation
has been postponed until the end of February 2022, we anticipate that the date
for eligible travelers travelling from other countries to use self-isolation
will be postponed until at least the end of February 2022. (Prior to this
announcement, the date was 13 January 2022).
Countries with a
high level of risk
All nations have been removed from the list of countries with a Very High Risk.
Changes to
worker border exception requests have been approved.
A new border
class exception in the technology industry has been announced by the
government, allowing 600 skilled IT employees, their spouses, and dependent
children to travel to New Zealand.
The following
approved worker border exclusions have been extended by the government:
• At least $27
an hour for 200 rural contractors
• A total of 40 shares
• A team of 615
deep-sea fishermen (to enter in September and October 2022)
• The Australian
Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) nominates 30 passengers every
month to transit New Zealand on their route back to Australia.
• 550 Pacific
shipping crews will be placed in supervised isolation in New Zealand.
Our viewpoints
New Zealand is
adopting a cautious approach to keeping the Omicron version out of the country,
based on the information that has been disclosed. We wouldn't be surprised if
more delays were introduced, unless the time gap between the second and
third/booster doses of vaccination in New Zealand were significantly reduced.
It looks that the current border setting will remain in force until May 1,
2022.
