Understand the New Australia Partner Points w.e.f November 2019

Australian Immigration Department has recently introduced the significant changes to partner points from 16th November 2019. The below mentioned changes will be implemented:

• 10 points will be awarded if you are single
• 10 points will be awarded if you have a partner who is an Australian citizen or Permanent Resident
• 10 points will be awarded if your partner has an acceptable skills assessment and competent English
• 05 points will be awarded if your partner has competent English

Please note that you’ll be only awarded one score out of all the above mentioned points categories.

This score will affect all the points test categories for EOI Australia not yet invited for visa 189, 190 and 491. The skilled regional provisional visa subclass 489 will no longer be available from November 2019.

All Expression of Interests (EOI) are then ranked the following way if points are equal:

• First rank for primary applicant with a skilled spouse or de facto partner
• Equal first for primary applicant without a spouse or de facto partner
• Second rank for primary applicants with a spouse or de facto partner who can demonstrate competent English but does not have the skills for skilled partner points (age and skills)
• Third rank for primary applicants with a partner who is ineligible for either competent English or Skilled partner points.
