The applicants applying for skilled migrants willing to live in regional area of Australia will have faster visa process. This announcement was done by David Coleman, Immigration Minister as part of $19.4 million plan. The visa sponsored by employers in regional Australia will be prioritized under this plan.
The amount will be utilized over a period of 4 years. The Department of Home Affairs will help regional areas of Australia in hiring new skilled workers to improve businesses. The $19.4 million plan will also be used to hire more local foreign workers.
The Immigration Minister said that the officials from the Department of Home Affairs will meet up with regional employers. They will check the migration opportunities and also track local labour problems.
To apply for regional areas, the applicants may be asked to live in regional areas for five years before receiving Australia Permanent Residency Visa.
The Treasurer, Josh Frydenberg is of the opinion that migrants should be sent where the jobs are and there should be cooperation between the states and territories as quoted by SBS News. He also added that even though Australia’s immigration intake is capped at 190, 000 it has only reached 160,000 in the past few years.
The immigration numbers are planned on yearly basis and the numbers depend on the needs of the community as well as the local labour needs. The minister agreed that the pressure of population is causing congestion in major cities.
