Australia Government in Strain Over Immigrants’ Poor English Language Standards

Australia’s Citizenship Minister, Alan Tudge in his recent word has warned that Australia’s multi-cultural set up of society is at jeopardy as many foreign migrants are failing to maintain and develop Proficient English standards. Now, the Federal government is revitalising its English language test difficulty levels as a symbol of Australian values.
English Requirement for Australia Immigration

"Integration of migrants has been the secret to our multicultural success but there are a few emerging, early warning signs we are not doing it as well as we used to," Mr Tudge said."If we are to guarantee the social cohesion of this country, if we are to guarantee a successful multicultural country into the future, then the broad Australian population needs to have reasonable English," he further declared.
According to a reliable government figure store, close to 25 percent of immigrants migrated between January & August, 2017 are having a limited English speaking skills or cannot speak English at all.
Mr. Minister also warned that these migrants are becoming threat for Australia’s Multi-culturism as they are identifying their own ‘cultural-bubble’ and isolating themselves to be comfortable in their existing shoes of language and other societal practices.

Ex-Social Service Minister has also pointed to this case and declared that ‘geographical concentration’ of immigrants is a sign and symbol of pitiable language standards.
Mr Tudgealso pointed to Greater Dandenong in Melbourne's south-east region, where about 60 per cent of residents were born overseas and many among these can speak limited English.
He also agreed to the fact that many English language training programs for the immigrants has been cut down but correspondingly pointed that, "It is also partly incumbent on the new migrants when they come here that they want to learn English and we want to raise the aspirations in relation to that.
According to Australia’s senate committee report, English language tests were called ‘too tough’ for immigrants and is posing risk of exclusion of numerous foreign skilled immigrants that can contribute to Australian economy. Commenting on this, Mr Tudge said that the test did not need to be "university level", but needed to show "a modest understanding" of the English language.
Standing to his opposition, Shadow Minister Tony Burke said that, ‘’Requirement for conversational level English is completely reasonable and it's already in place. Just because some Australians and people who have migrated to Australia don't have perfect English, doesn't mean they don't work hard or help build the country."
