Expression of Interest as the name suggests is a method of showing interest to apply for a skilled visa category in order to migrate to Australia. It is basically a point-test where an applicant needs to demonstrate the interest to migrate to Australia.
Expression of Interest is an online form in SkillSelect which asks a series of questions about the applicant skills depending upon the selection of the visa subclass. It is used to calculate the applicant’s ability to meet the points for certain visas.
Expression of Interest is used to apply for the following visas:
- Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)
- Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)
- Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489)
- Business Talent visa (subclass 132)
- Business Innovation visa and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188)
- Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186)
- Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme visa (subclass 187)
Expression of Interest must be completed online using skillselect. An applicant can create a profile on EOI free of cost.
The EOI’s which are submitted to DIBP are ranked on the basis of the claims made by the applicant in the form. Invitations are issued to those prospective applicants who score the highest points subject to the availability of positions under the operation of occupational ceiling for the applicant’s occupation.
After getting an invitation to apply, if an applicant lodges a visa application, the application form will be assessed again against the points test. The minimum eligibility to apply for Australia PR visa is 60 points. Applicant assessed points score must be equal to or greater than the value of the points claimed in EOI.
