South Australia introduces new entrepreneur program-SISA

South Australia has launched a new entrepreneur program for talented entrepreneurs to come and settle in the state from across the globe. The new SISA (Supporting Innovation in South Australia) Visa is aimed at attracting budding entrepreneurs in emerging sectors. The entrepreneurs in the field of cyber security, space, defense, big data, agribusiness, and medical technology are highly preferred.

The SISA Visa program is different from other entrepreneur visas because it has no financial requirements. An applicant’s applying for these visa programs are required to submit a strong and innovative business proposal to become eligible for SISA Visa program. Also, applicants have to be under the age of 45 to apply under this visa program.
Eligible applicants need to first apply for an endorsement from the South Australian Government and be endorsed by the Department of Trade, Tourism, and Investment. They can then apply for a subclass 408 visa (Temporary Activity) to the Department of Home Affairs.


The SISA Visa Pilot program has already been planned from November 2018 to November 2021. Therefore, the validity of your visa would depend on when you are granted the same. The visa application fee for SISA visa program is $285 but it is subjected to change anytime. Additionally, you also need to show sufficient funds to take care of yourself in South Australia. You have the option of taking along family members on this visa. However, you are required to show additional funds for them too. The dependents on this visa will have full work and study rights in Australia. The subclass 408 is a temporary visa and hence has no access to permanent residence. Immigration South Australia Immigration Report 2018!

Let us find out how the year 2018 went by for South Australia in terms of immigration programs in this very busy program year.
  1. General Skilled Migration (GSM) Program:
Immigration SA has processed 2,569 nominations under the GSM program for 2017/18, now currently tracking at 1,909 year to date for the first half of the current financial year.
The state has also conducted 58 support service events that were attended by over 2,100 newly arrived migrants. The events included monthly “Welcome to SA” information sessions, employments workshops and spotlight seminars.
From January to December (YTD) we have responded to over 7200 enquiries (email, phone or online enquiries), completed 879 qualification assessments, and 15 overseas skilled trades people in licensed trades received a subsidy to undertake skills gap training to advance to a full trade license.

  1. Business Migration
Immigration SA’s Business Migration Program is famous and over the past 12 months. The business migration team held an impressive 684 face-to-face client meetings in addition to welcoming 17 delegations of potential clients to South Australia from China and Malaysia.

Earlier this year, Immigration SA underwent a major upgrade to online application system. The new process now offers one platform for migration agents and clients to manage their application status and meeting requests through the Immigration SA Apply website. A smarter application process has been created by Immigration SA to invite skill migrants and business migrants.
Immigration SA is open to accept online applications. However, the office is closed from 21st December 2018 and will re-open on January 2, 2019.

South Australia Introduce New Business Pilot Program for Migrants

The businesses related to some particular industries will be prioritized and the other will not be eligible under the program
The Australian immigration government has introduced a new business visa for South Australia that will allow people with innovative business ideas to come and settle their business without providing the evidence of open capital which was a specific requirement for other business visas.
The applicants applying for this new visa will be able to live in South Australia for three years along with their families and are required to set up their proposed business according to the approved plans under a pilot project which was started in November.
The migrants applying for Supporting Innovation in South Australia (Temporary Activity) Visa must be under 45 years of age, and has minimum vocational level English (score equivalent to 5 bands) along with basic health, character and other financial requirements.
Though, the basic requirement to apply under this stream is to have an innovative business plan in accordance with South Australian Government.
The State Government is prioritizing business that are related to Defence and Space, Cyber Security, Big Data, Digital and Blockchain, Food, Wine and Agricultural Technology, Health and Medical Technology, Robotics, Media and Film Industries. These streams will be in top-priority, however, the applicants applying for other business plans related to other industries are also free to apply.
The potential migrants must have an in-depth knowledge and expertise in the business they are planning to set up in Australia. The ideas must represent a clear, competitive advantage and genuine innovation with strong potential of creating employment and contributing towards the economy in South Australia.
The projected time for the visa program is for three years and during this period, the new businesses set up under the program will have at least half of the assets and staff based in South Australia.
The Immigration South Australia has released the list of some businesses that are not eligible for this visa. The list mentions cafes and restaurants, consulting firms, employment agencies, export/import businesses, franchises, foot reflexology, massage/parlours, acupuncture, traditional Chinese Medicine, herbal dispensing businesses, Feng Shui and retail.
The successful applicants who are able to establish their business in South Australia are eligible to apply for Australia Permanent Residency under any of PR programs.
The South Australia Government will supervise the business activity of the visa holders and if the business venture is not “sufficiently” associated with the business plan, the visa may be considered for cancellation.
The immigration visa program was started in November 2019 and it will continue until the end of November 21. After evaluating if the pilot program is successful then it will be rolled out for other parts of Australia as well.

South Australia Introduces New Business Visa For Permanent Residency

The new special visa is aimed to improve the economy of South Australia. This visa was launched on November 21. This pilot scheme is planned for three years till the end of November 2021. The visa will have no cap for the next three years, as confirmed by the Department of Home Affairs.
What is special about this visa? How is it different from other visas?
The Business Visa does not require any investment unlike other business and investment visas that has mandatory minimum investment requirement. The other Business Visas available in Australia require a minimum investment of at least $200,000.
The Visa Subclass 408 is a temporary visa that is approved by Federal Government and will allow the visa holders to stay in Australia for 3 years. Also, the visa holders will also be able to include their family members in their visa applications.
To apply for New Australia Business Visa, the applicants must be less than 45 years of age, and an endorsement from the South Australian State Government that allows you to establish a business in the state. The applicants are also required to submit a strong business plan to the state government.

Steven Marshall, Premier of SA says that this new visa will help create jobs in the state. Also, new investments will be targeted, as per SBS. This visa is also one of the routes for Permanent Residence in Australia.
There is also positive light is seen as this visa category will encourage more investment in sectors that has the maximum growth potential. The sectors include defense technology and advances manufacturing. The Federal Government is also planning to enter the naval shipbuilding program in SA.
A total of $400,000 budget has been allocated to these programs by the South Australian Government.
The English requirement for this visa has also been kept very low that is IELTS 5 bands in each module of reading, writing, listening and speaking as compared to other visa categories.

Important Update Under South Australia Nomination For Skilled Workers

South Australia has recently updated the requirements for international students to apply for Australia PR through state nomination.
As per the new update, the international students applying for South Australia nomination must be currently working in a skilled occupation listed on SA demand list for last 3 months.

This change is even applicable to VET- Vocational Education and Training graduates in Higher Education, regardless of the occupation list under which they are applying.

South Australia Closes ‘High Point’ Category Quota

South Australia has been successful in attracting high quality applicants under the High Point category. This category is for the Supplementary Skilled List (SSL) occupations and ‘Special Conditions Apply’- the occupations on the State Nominated Occupation List. Immigration SA has received a high volume of applications for the high point category and the applications received will be monitored over the coming weeks.

If the Immigration SA are closed to reaching the ‘high points’ category quota, the minimum points requirement will be automatically increased to 90 points. And, once the quota reaches, ‘high point’ category, 17/18 programs will be closed until 30 June 2018.
